Grade level: 8
This simulation uses the principle of dummy experiments in behavioural biology. Artificially designed models can be used to investigate which external traits animals respond to and which stimuli influence their behaviour most strongly.
Task: Create four dummies, vary size, colour, and pattern deliberately, run several trials, and use the results to justify the likely size class of one or more selected butterfly types.
Extension: For one butterfly, size, pattern, and colour are hidden and the butterfly is shown in white. Try to work out its three unknown traits.
