Selection Curve

Observing Forms of Selection

The simulation changes the size distribution of a fish population through predator pressure. Choose up to two predators, start the animation, and compare the red current curve with the grey starting curve. Each simulation run should be observed for 1:30 minutes.

Forms of selection can be divided into directional, stabilising, and disruptive selection. In directional selection, the trait distribution shifts in one direction. In stabilising selection, intermediate values remain most frequent. In disruptive selection, intermediate values become less common, while small and large values are favoured. Choose the predators in sequence so that each diagram illustrates one form of selection.
